The one hundred and sixty acres of Swillington Organic Farm were originally part of the historic Swillington estate of the Lowther family.

Some of the original features of the estate still remain, including parkland, ice house and a Victorian walled garden in which our organic fruit and vegetables are now grown.

The entire farm has been fully organic since April 2001 and is certified by the Soil Association.

The farm has a diverse range of habitats including woodland, marsh, pasture and ponds, providing a haven for wildlife and the perfect place for our organic rare breed pigs and native breed cattle and sheep as well as free range organic poultry. However these idyllic surroundings are only 5 miles from Leeds and easily accessible by car, bike, train and on foot.

There is an ongoing programme of tree and hedge planting, coppicing and reed bed management in order to further improve the area for wildlife. The farm is part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme and supports a wide variety of wildlife.

Species present include harvest mice, barn, little and tawny owls and a variety of ducks, waders, butterflies and insects.

At various times of the year we offer farm walks for our customers, for more information look for updates on this site and for information displayed in the shop
